Hebrew Tattoos

My longest and most enduring project has been Hebrew tattoos. For over 15 years, I have devoted myself to the art of creating tattoo designs, meticulously crafted in Hebrew calligraphy. In this time, I’ve listened to the stories of more than 3,000 Jews, each seeking to express their identity through the timeless elegance of Hebrew letters, ultimately to be inked onto their skin.

Tattoos are a profound expression of identity—whether they reflect a deeply rooted sense of self or an aspiration toward an ideal. Hebrew letters, with their ancient presence in our lives for over 2,000 years, lend themselves uniquely to the expression of Jewish identity. I have drawn for Holocaust survivors and their descendants, for converts in the process of becoming Jews, for Rabbis with complex theological ideas, and for countless others who simply wish to proudly display their Jewish heritage.

The act of tattooing in the Jewish context carries its own complexity, marking oneself as Jewish through an act that some see as transgressive. Yet, this very tension adds to the excitement I feel with each new client who entrusts me with their story.

While I do not tattoo myself, I have forged strong relationships with some of the leading tattoo studios in the world, and with exceptional tattoo artists who skillfully bring my designs to life on my clients’ skin.
